The Diamondbacks played a short two-game series against the Dodgers on Wednesday and Thursday.
Game 1 (Wednesday, April 23)
Dan Haren (ARI) vs. Derek Lowe (LAD)
Dodgers 8, Diamondbacks 3
W: D. Lowe (2-1)
L: D. Haren (3-1)
S: T. Saito (2)
Dan Haren had his first bad start of the season, giving up 6 runs (5 earned) in 4 2/3 innings. Stephen Drew went 2-4 with a home run and 2 RBI, which was most of the offense for the D-Backs. Chris Young went 0-5 with the "Golden Sombrero". Derek Lowe pitched 5 innings of one run ball before leaving the game with elbow stiffness. He should be able to make his next start. Chin-lung Hu, Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier, James Loney, and Rafael Furcal all had two hits each for the Dodgers, who had 13 as a team.
Game 2 (Thursday, April 24)
Edgar Gonzalez (ARI) vs. Chad Billingsley (LAD)
Diamondbacks 6, Dodgers 4
W: E. Gonzalez (1-1)
L: C. Billingsley (0-4)
S: B. Lyon (6)
Edgar Gonzalez gave the Diamondbacks another decent start in place on the injured Doug Davis. Gonzalez allowed 3 runs over 5 1/3 innings to pick up his first win of the season. The bullpen allowed a hit, a walk, and an unearned run after Gonzalez left. Jeff Salazar started in the place of Eric Byrnes and hit a two-run homer. Byrnes was given the day off to rest his legs. Chris Young went 2-5 with 3 strikeouts, which made him 2-10 with 7 strikeouts during the series. Chad Billingsley struck out 12 batters, but he allowed 5 runs. Billingsley dropped to 0-4 on the year. Jeff Kent went 2-3 with 2 RBI in the losing effort.
